A Warm Welcome awaits you from Landlord Vince, Chef Leon and the Maypole team at this traditional, friendly and welcoming pub. We serve a great section of real cask ales, lagers, wines, cocktails and spirits.
Our courtyard garden is perfect or a cold beer on a Summers day, and our outside covered and comfy areas (The Cosy and The Snug) will keep you dry.
We serve delicious home cooked food six days a week from a traditional pub menu.
We love to entertain and host various events including Pub Quizzes, Drag Queen Bingo, Music performers and tribute acts.

Meet the landlords
We believe the people and visitors of Thaxted deserve more from the local pub and it’s our job to deliver just that. We like to think of ourselves as friendly, and we pride ourselves on giving the warmest of welcomes.
We have lived together in Thaxted for over 20 years. In fact, Leon is Thaxted born and bred, as are most of his family who live in this pretty and historic town. We have been married since 2008, and together with our two dogs; Chardonnay and Daisy, have taken over the running of this lively pub in the heart of the Thaxted community.

Leon Paterson
Leon has been in the catering trade since he left school in 1995. He started his career as a kitchen assistant, working his way up to Head Chef for another local establishment, a position he held for 22 years!
He’s now in charge of his own kitchen and will be showing off his culinary skills to the patrons of The Maypole. Leon believes in home cooking, locally sourced produce, and great value for money.
Vince Salter
Vince started his career in science, before working in the NHS where he stayed for over 20 years. Alongside this he’s held numerous bar jobs and run his own entertainment company hosting Disco, Karaoke and Quiz nights.
There are two sides to every coin and there certainly is to Vince. Meet his alter ego Miss Ginny Tonic (and Friends), she fronts the Quiz nights and will be a regular feature at The Maypole.
